The organizers of the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) have revealed that they are currently assessing a formal appeal from rapper Amerado’s camp regarding the omission of his track ‘Kwaku Ananse’ from the Most Popular Song of the Year category.
Amerado expressed his query on a social media platform, formerly known as X, questioning why ‘Kwaku Ananse’ didn’t make it to the nominee list when the selections for the 25th edition of the awards were unveiled on March 28, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Robert Klah, the Head of Public Events and Communications at TGMA, explained in an interview with Hitz FM, a radio station in Accra, that Amerado’s team formally submitted a petition, which is presently under scrutiny.
Robert Klah emphasized that if the petition holds merit upon review, ‘Kwaku Ananse’ will be considered for inclusion in the Most Popular Song of the Year category.
“Amerado’s representatives have directly communicated their concern about the absence of ‘Kwaku Ananse’ in the Most Popular Song of the Year category. They have lodged their petition. The panel will deliberate on it, and if it’s deemed valid, his song will be reinstated.”
He also encouraged other artists facing similar issues to follow Amerado’s example and raise their concerns for proper evaluation.
“If you strongly feel that you merit inclusion, we are open to hearing your grievances. Get in touch with us, and let’s address any necessary adjustments and clarifications.”
